Behaviours and activities that run through several process elements and have to be coordinated across them: planning (most or all elements are planned from the start, with their specific objectives and conditions considered and the resources to be used ready); transparency (the refinement and iteration that elements usually need has to be explainable to interested parties, and an effective process allows for change and for explanation afterwards); documentation (elements are recorded well enough to defend their scope and activities if challenged later and to make future executions more effective and consistent); expertise (each element needs particular specialist skills and qualifications, which can concern the matter, language, technology, the tools or methods chosen, or the quality assurance of their results); being informed (the legal and subject-matter experts understand what each element is for, the operative, matter-specific and process-specific requirements, the ESI landscape, and the subject matter, scope and time frame of the situation); adaptiveness (projects usually start with requirements and the ESI landscape only partly known, so adaptability is essential); and use of technology (effectiveness can depend on applying the tools and methods that suit the approach chosen for each element).
