When weighing evidence, facts found are kept apart from information inferred (a file present on a device is a fact; that it arrived as an email attachment, or that a user chose to save it in a folder they created, is inference, which other filesystem evidence can corroborate). Every fact an inference rests on must be present and itself verified, and when reporting, the difference between facts and inferences is stated and the reasoning behind each inference is clear and repeatable.
