Resilience is the ability to recover operational condition quickly after an incident; fault tolerance is the ability to keep operating, possibly with degraded capability, when disruption, faults or failures occur inside the system, and hardware faults can affect algorithm execution as in any software. Stakeholders may accept lower service expectations under resilience than under reliability, including a degraded mode for some failure types. A resilient system should also carry ways of recovering when they are needed.
