Clause 4 Context of the organization – ISO 39001:2012 - Road Traffic Safety Management

ISO 39001:2012 - Road Traffic Safety Management 4.1: Understanding of the organization and its context

What does 4.1 require?

The organization shall work out which internal and external issues bear on its purpose and on whether the RTS management system can deliver what it is meant to deliver. It shall also establish the part it plays in the road traffic system, list its own processes, activities and functions that can influence road traffic safety, and work out the order in which they run and how they act on one another. Amendment 1:2024 (climate action changes) adds one requirement at the end of the clause: the organization shall decide whether climate change is one of the relevant issues.
