Clause 10: Management of purchased materials (packaging additions) – ISO 22002-4:2025 Prerequisite programmes on food safety, Part 4: Food packaging manufacturing

ISO 22002-4:2025 Prerequisite programmes on food safety, Part 4: Food packaging manufacturing 10: Management of purchased materials: seals, novel raw materials, nonconforming materials and bulk intake

What does 10 require?

In addition to the base clause, where tamper-evident seals are in use, a verification step confirms conformity with the relevant customer or regulatory requirements. Raw materials from recycled sources, nanomaterials or plant-based materials are accepted only after measures verify that food safety and traceability requirements are met. Raw materials outside specification are handled under a documented procedure so they cannot be used by mistake. The access points of bulk raw material intake lines are identified and, where appropriate, capped and secured, and nothing is discharged into them until the material has been approved and verified.
