Clause 6: Identification and evaluation of hazards – ISO 21448:2022

ISO 21448:2022 6.5: 6.5 Specification of acceptance criteria for the residual risk

Unless severity or controllability is judged to remove the risk, targets are set for the risk of the hazardous behaviour, and any claim that risk is absent is reviewed along with its supporting evidence. Targets weigh regulations and industry rules, whether the function is novel or already on the market, whether the people who could be exposed (owner, operator, pedestrian, passenger) would bear unreasonable risk, criteria of established functions and the performance of an exemplary driver. Quantitative criteria need a valid rationale, from traffic data for the target market or similar functions in the field, and may rest on a risk tolerability principle (globally at least as good), a positive risk balance, ALARP or minimal endogenous mortality; a rationale covers only SOTIF risks, and may be set across a fleet or for an individual vehicle.
