The organization shall set up, operate and keep up processes for getting ready for, and dealing with, the possible emergencies it identified under 6.1.2. Its preparation shall include: planning in advance how to stop or lessen harmful environmental impacts that emergencies could cause; responding when an emergency actually happens; acting to stop or lessen the consequences, in proportion to how serious the emergency is and what environmental harm it could do; testing the planned response at intervals where this can be done; reviewing and updating the processes and planned responses at intervals, and especially after a real emergency or a test; and, where fitting, giving relevant parties, including people working under its control, the information and training they need about emergency preparedness and response. Documented information on these processes shall be kept to the degree needed to be confident they run as intended.
