Within the system's defined scope, top management shall set, put into effect and keep up an environmental policy that: suits the organization's purpose and context, including the nature and scale of what it does and supplies (activities, products, services) and the environmental impacts involved; gives a basis on which environmental objectives can be set; commits to protecting the environment, covering prevention of pollution together with any further commitments that fit the organization's context, which may cover conserving natural resources, using resources sustainably, mitigating and adapting to climate change, or protecting biodiversity and ecosystems; commits to fulfilling its compliance obligations; and commits to continually improving the system so environmental performance gets better. The policy shall be kept as documented information, made known inside the organization and kept accessible to interested parties.
