ISO 11616:2017 7.2: Cardinality

What does 7.2 require?

Clause 7.2 is the cardinality clause. In a product identifier model, cardinality decides whether a field holds one value or a list, and whether the list is ordered or set-like. That has consequences for the identifier: a combination product with two active substances is not the same as two single-substance products, and a product with two strengths in one pack is not the same as two products. The clause sets the multiplicity rules that the rest of clause 7 assumes. The public contents give the title and its place between the strata description and the strength representation, but not the body. The exact minimum and maximum for each element are not stated in the text we hold. What can be said is that the clause exists because the simple one-product-one-substance case is not the only case the standard has to support.
