For management of change the audit checks written procedures for changes to process chemicals, technology, equipment, procedures and facilities that require, before any change, the technical basis, the effect on safety and health, changes to operating procedures, the time needed and authorization; that operating, maintenance and contract employees affected are informed and trained before start-up; and that safety information and procedures are updated. For mechanical integrity it checks a programme covering pressure vessels, tanks, piping, relief and vent systems, emergency shutdown, pumps and controls, written maintenance procedures, trained maintenance staff, inspections and tests at frequencies meeting manufacturer advice and good engineering practice (more often where experience shows need), correction of out-of-limit deficiencies before further use, quality assurance during fabrication and installation, and suitable maintenance materials and spares.
