IEEE 2089-2021 Age Appropriate Digital Services Framework 9.3a-d: Consider the product against children's rights, domestic law, industry codes and the best interests test

What does 9.3a-d require?

The project shall weigh its product and service against the children's rights that General Comment 25 sets out, treating the best interests of the child as paramount where rights conflict; shall consider the relevant domestic legislation protecting and providing for children in every jurisdiction where the product engages with children directly or indirectly, deliberately or as a side effect of operations (Annex E gives examples); shall verify that the product reflects industry codes or norms that protect and provide for children; and, where in doubt about standards or local or national law, shall verify that the product reflects children's best interests and shall refer the question to competent legal counsel who know the relevant jurisdiction.
