The objective and requirements of Part 1 clause 8 apply to assessment of safety-related software; unless a sector standard says otherwise, the minimum independence of assessors follows Part 1 clause 8. Assessment may use the results of the software lifecycle activities, and should weigh whether the selected methods, languages and tools are consistent and complementary, whether developers fully understand them, and whether they suit the problems met. Desirable properties include completeness against the standard, correctness, traceable closure of all identified issues, ability to update after change without extensive rework, and a precisely defined configuration.
