IEC 61508:2010 - Functional Safety of E/E/PE Safety-related Systems 3-7.3.2: Part 3, 7.3.2 Validation plan for software aspects of system safety: requirements

Planning specifies the procedural and technical steps showing the software meets its safety requirements. The plan states when validation happens and who does it; the relevant EUC modes (set-up and adjustment, start-up, teach mode, manual, semi-automatic and automatic running, steady state, reset, shutdown, maintenance, foreseeable abnormal conditions and foreseeable operator misuse); which safety-related software must be validated in each mode before commissioning; the technical strategy; the measures and procedures confirming each safety function meets its functional and systematic capability requirements; the validation environment, including calibrated tools where needed; pass/fail criteria; and how results, especially failures, are evaluated. The strategy is justified, choosing between manual or automated, static or dynamic, analytical or statistical techniques, and objective or expert-judgement acceptance criteria. Where the SIL requires, scope and content are agreed with the assessor or their representative, including whether the assessor attends testing. Pass/fail criteria include required input signals with sequences and values, expected outputs with sequences and values, and other criteria such as memory use, timing and value tolerances.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 2 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
