ICMM Mining Principles (2024 Update) 3.7: Agreement and consent of Indigenous Peoples

What does 3.7 require?

Obtain agreement from affected Indigenous Peoples showing their consent to expected impacts on land or other rights, with the terms under which those impacts may happen and how they will be handled. Where relocation, or significant harm to critical cultural heritage, is possible, explore feasible design alternatives to avoid them; if unavoidable, obtain agreement showing consent in line with the ICMM position statement on Indigenous Peoples and mining. Where no agreement is reached, set out a policy or approach describing the steps taken to meet that statement's commitments.
