Parts Seven and Seven A: Leverage and supervisory reporting – EU Capital Requirements Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 575/2013)

EU Capital Requirements Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 575/2013) 429: Leverage ratio: Tier 1 over the total exposure measure, at least 3 %, plus the G-SII buffer

What does 429 require?

Institutions must calculate the leverage ratio as Tier 1 capital divided by the total exposure measure (assets, derivatives under the leverage exposure rules, add-ons for securities financing transactions, off-balance-sheet items with conversion factors and regular-way trades awaiting settlement, minus permitted exclusions) at the reporting reference date and keep it at or above 3 %. G-SIIs must also hold a leverage ratio buffer of 50 % of their G-SII buffer rate, met with Tier 1 capital that is not used for other leverage requirements, failing which capital conservation restrictions apply.
