EDM Council CDMC - Cloud Data Management Capability Framework 2.1.1: 2.1.1 Data cataloging is defined

The organization defines the scope of data to be cataloged, aligned with business strategy, risk appetite and control framework; which types of data asset the catalog holds and at what granularity; the main characteristics of every data asset, relationships included; how metadata is sourced; and a catalog definition and scope that let consumers find and understand data easily. A cataloging strategy sits within the data strategy and covers regulatory, business and ethical requirements and the value sought (KPIs for revenue or cost, KRIs for risk). Cataloging is always on, with principles and capabilities that find, automatically, the minimum metadata each in-scope asset needs as soon as it is created or enters, and metadata that is itself sensitive is controlled like any sensitive data. Catalog governance aligns with change management and data management policy.
