An FMI provides clear and certain final settlement, at the latest by end of the value date, and intraday or in real time where necessary or preferable. Its rules define the point at which settlement is final, and the point after which unsettled payments, transfer instructions or other obligations can no longer be revoked by a participant. Large-value payment systems and securities settlement systems consider real-time gross settlement or multiple-batch processing during the day.
