CIS Control 2: Inventory and Control of Software Assets – CIS Controls v8.1

CIS Controls v8.1 2.1: Establish and Maintain a Software Inventory

Maintain a detailed register of every licensed program present on the enterprise's devices and servers. Each entry records the product name, publisher, date first installed or used, and the business reason for it; where relevant it also notes the URL, app store source, version, how it is deployed and when it will be retired. Review the register at least every six months. Implementation Groups: IG1, IG2 and IG3 (part of the IG1 essential cyber hygiene baseline, so every enterprise applies it). Asset type: Software. Security function: Identify.
