Cefic Responsible Care Management Framework
Chapter 3.2.6: Contributing to sustainability – Cefic Responsible Care Management Framework

Cefic Responsible Care Management Framework 3.2.6-a: Contributing to sustainability: materiality, SDGs, communication, portfolio, circularity, water, biodiversity, climate and energy, diversity

What does 3.2.6-a require?

With the UN 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement the world has set a course on climate and environment, and the chemical industry is an enabler of that transition. Cefic and its members have a Sustainability Charter and roadmap focused on four areas: making a low-carbon economy possible, using resources more efficiently in operations and value chains, promoting circular economy principles, and preventing harm to people and the environment across the life cycle. Responsible Care contributes through nine processes: materiality assessment (what matters most to stakeholders and the organisation), planning the contribution to the SDGs, engaging and reporting on sustainability, a sustainable product portfolio (design for better outcomes, portfolio assessment), resource efficiency and circular economy (recyclability, durability, sustainability-driven innovation, collaborations, sustainable consumption), water use control and optimisation, identifying and managing impacts on land use and biodiversity, climate and energy performance (energy efficiency, GHG reduction, climate adaptation), and diversity with equal opportunities in recruitment and careers.
