A person conducting a business or undertaking ensures, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers it engages or causes to be engaged, and of workers whose activities in carrying out work it influences or directs, while they are at work in the business or undertaking (s 19(1)). It also ensures, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of other persons (visitors, customers, the public) is not put at risk from work carried out as part of the business or undertaking (s 19(2)). The duty covers physical and psychological health and extends to contractors, labour hire workers and volunteers.
