Core Standard 4 Health promotion and preventive care – Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition)

Australia RACGP Standards for General Practices (5th edition) C4.1: Health promotion and preventive care: patients receive information on health promotion, illness prevention and preventive care that is tailored to them, drawing on the RACGP Red Book and the practice's knowledge of its population

What does C4.1 require?

Prevention is part of every encounter. The practice uses the opportunities a consultation offers to provide information on healthy behaviour, screening, immunisation and early detection, tailored to the patient's age, sex, risk factors and cultural background rather than generic, and guided by the RACGP Guidelines for preventive activities in general practice and the companion National guide for First Nations health. The practice may also use waiting room material, reminder systems and nurse-led clinics to reach patients who would benefit.
