Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) C5.2: Clinical autonomy for practitioners: clinicians can make decisions affecting clinical care to the full scope of their practice, skills and knowledge, free from commercial or managerial pressure such as visit quotas

What does C5.2 require?

Clinical judgement belongs to the clinician. The service's rostering, remuneration and performance arrangements allow each practitioner to decide on assessment, treatment, referral to hospital and the time a visit needs, according to the patient and their own scope, without pressure from owners or managers to meet visit numbers, shorten consultations or favour particular providers. Clinicians can raise concerns about any constraint on their autonomy.
