Australia RACGP Standards for After-hours and Medical Deputising Services (5th edition) AHS2.1: Qualifications, education and training of the clinical team: clinicians hold current national registration where applicable and accreditation with their professional body and take part in relevant continuing professional development; GPs are specialist GPs or general practice registrars under appropriate supervision; and the clinical team is trained in the equipment they use and aware of its risks

What does AHS2.1 require?

Patients are entitled to assume the practitioner who arrives is qualified and current. The service checks and records that every clinician holds current AHPRA registration where required and relevant accreditation or certification, and participates in continuing professional development appropriate to after-hours and home visiting practice, including emergency skills and cultural safety. Every GP is a specialist general practitioner or a general practice registrar supervised in accordance with the training program's requirements for after-hours work. Clinicians are trained to use the service's equipment relevant to their role and understand the risks it carries.
