Standard 7: Communicating for safety – Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027)

Australia National Pathology Standards (First Edition 2027) 7.01: Supporting requesters: advise on available services, request requirements including the clinical information needed, appropriateness, limitations, prerequisites and preparation, communicate accurate and complete information in a timely manner, keep a competent workforce member available to answer enquiries, and make the designated person or delegated supervisors available for virtual consultation

What does 7.01 require?

Requesters and the patient's other clinicians are treated as partners. The practice tells them what tests it offers, what a request needs to contain (including the clinical details that make a test interpretable), which tests suit which questions, and the limits, prerequisites and preparation involved; it passes on accurate, complete information without delay; someone competent is on hand to field enquiries and give advice; and the designated person or their delegated supervisors can be reached for a virtual consultation.

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
