Australia Model Code of Practice: Healthcare and Social Assistance Industry 3.4e: 3.4 Train workers in recognising and de-escalating violence and run response teams and briefings

Information, training and supervision controls: pre-shift team briefings to share risk information; training in identifying early warning signs of violent behaviour, de-escalation techniques, personal safety (physical environment, breakaway techniques and evasive measures) and the specific needs of client groups such as dementia and mental health conditions; a dedicated, trained, regularly drilled multi-disciplinary response team for high risk situations such as a code black team; extra supervision and support for new, young and inexperienced workers; and encouraging workers to keep records and screenshots of harmful behaviour online or by phone and report it to a supervisor. Controls should be maintained and reviewed, especially after changes to the task or workplace.
