Australia MBS Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder and Disability Allied Health Items 2026 B-4: Tell the patient before a service when no Medicare benefit applies

Before providing a service for which no Medicare benefit is payable, tell the patient or family so; GN.2.4 describes providing such a service without first telling the patient as an offence under s 19CC of the Health Insurance Act (the note gives a service not listed in the MBS as the case). Families should also be told in advance when a service would fall outside the item conditions or beyond the lifetime limits.
