Schedule 1: accreditation materials, the relevant standards incorporated by reference – Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017

Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017 Sch1-discipline: Comply with the discipline-specific NPAAC accreditation materials in Schedule 1 for every discipline the laboratory is approved to render: human genetic variation, HIV and hepatitis C testing, microbial nucleic acids, mortuaries, anatomical pathology cut-up, cervical screening, haemopoietic progenitor cells, massively parallel sequencing, semen analysis and transfusion practice

What does Sch1-discipline require?

Beyond the cross-cutting documents, Schedule 1 lists discipline-specific requirements that apply where the approval covers the relevant kinds of pathology services: the Requirements for Medical Testing for Human Genetic Variation (Fourth Edition 2025); the Requirements for Laboratory Testing for Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis C Virus (Fifth Edition 2025); the Requirements for Medical Testing of Microbial Nucleic Acids (Second Edition 2013); the Requirements for the Facilities and Operation of Mortuaries (Third Edition 2013); the Requirements for the Performance of Anatomical Pathology Cut-Up (Fourth Edition 2013); the Requirements for cervical screening (Third Edition 2025); the Requirements for Procedures related to the Collection, Processing, Storage and Issue of Human Haemopoietic Progenitor Cells (Sixth Edition 2021); the Requirements for Human Medical Genome Testing Utilising Massively Parallel Sequencing Technologies (First Edition 2017); the Requirements for Semen Analysis (First Edition 2017); and the Requirements for Transfusion Laboratory Practice (Fifth Edition 2022). Each is read with the overarching Requirements for Medical Pathology Services. The documents are published free of charge on the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care's pathology standards page, as the Schedule 1 note substituted in 2026 records.
