Australia Food Standards Code Standard 1.2.1 Requirements to Have Labels or Otherwise Provide Information 1.2.1-22: Do not deface a label, and re-label only by permanent overlay

A person who sells packaged food or deals with it before sale must not deface its label (alter, remove, erase, obliterate or obscure it) unless the relevant authority has given permission and any conditions are met. Incorrect labels may be corrected by placing a new label over the old one so the new label cannot be removed and the incorrect information is not visible.
