Section 7: Energization of electrical installation or equipment – AS/NZS 4836:2023 Safe Working on or near Low-Voltage and Extra-Low Voltage Electrical Installations and Equipment

AS/NZS 4836:2023 Safe Working on or near Low-Voltage and Extra-Low Voltage Electrical Installations and Equipment 7.2-7.3: 7.2 and 7.3 Re-energization and extra-low voltage testing

Re-energization should follow this order: notify other workers in the area and the owner or whoever controls the site that testing or supply restoration is about to happen; confirm required documentation is ready; visually confirm tools, surplus materials and waste are removed, guards, covers and barriers reinstated and the site restored; carry out inspections and tests to AS/NZS 3000 relevant to the work, confirming the earthing system is complete and tested; cancel work permits, including access to third party assets such as distributor equipment; remove personal tags and locks (considering others who may still have locks on); re-energize; carry out functional tests (phase rotation, correct sequence and dependent equipment operating correctly); and confirm equipment, guards and covers are back to original condition. Parts designed to run at ELV must be tested, confirming earthing continuity for protective ELV circuits, insulation resistance at 250 V d.c. of at least 0.5 megohm, polarity and correct connections.
