Section 2: Emergency planning committee – AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities

AS 3745-2010 Planning for Emergencies in Facilities 2.1-2.2: Form a resourced emergency planning committee and give it the planning duties

Whoever is answerable for a facility or the people in it must form an emergency planning committee (EPC) suited to the facility or group of facilities and make sure it has the time, money, equipment and people needed to build and run the emergency plan. The EPC, with owners, managers, occupiers and employers, is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the plan, the response procedures and the related training. Its duties include identifying events that could cause emergencies, developing the plan, setting how long the plan and evacuation diagram stay valid (recommended no more than five years), making the plan easy to find, establishing the emergency control organization (and a specialist response team if needed), authorising release of the plan, spreading awareness of the procedures, scheduling training, testing the procedures, keeping the register of wardens current, making visitors aware of the procedures, reviewing and testing the response procedures at least annually, reviewing the plan when its validity period ends and after any emergency, exercise or relevant change, retaining a lasting log of what happened in each emergency, and correcting deficiencies.
