Section 5 covers fire service water tanks (with particular attention to corrosion of suction inlets, vortex inhibitors, tie rods, fittings and roof supports, and to any liner). All tanks are routinely serviced to the Section. When a tank will be out of service for more than 24 hours, before work starts: tell the owner; tell the fire brigade and agree temporary water supply arrangements; if possible have a water tanker on standby; and if possible provide temporary storage to AS 2304. Frequencies are monthly, six-monthly, yearly and ten-yearly (with others where applicable, such as a six-yearly pressure vessel inspection). Remaining liner life is estimated when the first ten-year drain and clean falls due or when the maker's warranty expires, whichever comes sooner, and that estimate sets the later drain and inspection frequency.
