Vertical nail lamination may build up the breadth of larger members only from seasoned laminations of the same type and grade, unjoined in length, nailed with staggered nails of at least 2.8 mm diameter, clinched or nailed from both sides (or No. 10 screws with 75 % penetration); spaced ring beams are laminated per the figure. Studs at openings and under concentrated loads may be built up from laminations of the same type, grade and moisture condition, nailed at 600 mm maximum centres (75 mm nails up to 38 mm thick, 90 mm nails up to 50 mm); posts are never nail-laminated. Multi-piece wall plates are nail-laminated with at least two nails at up to 600 mm centres, and joins in bottom plates sit over solid supports.
