EAP staff can contribute by counseling an employee whose concerning behavior is being addressed through a remedial plan, by giving psychological support to individuals or groups affected by a threat or incident, and by passing on a warning to the employer where counseling reveals a threat that overrides confidentiality. Depending on the EAP's relationship with the organization, specially trained EAP staff may perform an initial violence risk screening unless confidentiality or other legal or ethical limits prevent it.
