A management-defined performance measure is an income-and-expense subtotal which the entity uses when communicating publicly outside its financial statements, which it uses to tell users how management views one aspect of the whole entity's financial performance, and which is neither listed in paragraph 118 nor specifically required by a Standard. The excluded subtotals are gross profit and similar measures, operating profit before depreciation, amortisation and AASB 136 impairments, operating profit plus equity-accounted income and expenses, the paragraph 73 replacement subtotal, profit before income taxes, and profit from continuing operations. Any subtotal used in public communications is presumed to convey management's view of whole-entity performance; the entity may rebut that presumption only with reasonable and supportable information demonstrating the basis for the assertion.
