Cash, credits, coupons, vouchers or similar items the entity pays, or expects to pay, its customer, or to parties that buy from its customer, reduce the transaction price and revenue, unless the payment is for a distinct good or service the customer transfers to the entity. Payments for a distinct good or service are accounted for like other purchases from suppliers, but any excess over its fair value reduces the transaction price, and if that fair value cannot be reasonably estimated the whole payment reduces it. Variable amounts payable to the customer are estimated and constrained like other variable consideration. A reduction of revenue is recognised at the later of when the related revenue is recognised and when the entity makes or promises the payment, including promises implied by customary practice.
