Government departments, and other public sector bodies, that obtain some or all of their spending authority from a parliamentary appropriation disclose a summary of the recurrent, capital and other major categories of expenditure authority, showing separately the original amounts appropriated and the total of supplementary appropriations and amounts authorised otherwise than by appropriation (by the Treasurer, another Minister or other legislative authority), the expenditure against each category, and the reasons for any material variance between authorised amounts and expenditure together with the financial consequences of unauthorised spending. The amounts include appropriations for which the entity recognises revenue or income under another Standard; broad summaries by major category suffice, and the level of detail is a matter of judgement that can be aligned with the AASB 1055 variance disclosures where both apply.
